Redbook Article: I

Section: 1

Clause: 4.1.2

Requestor Information:

Name: Erik Bond

Position/Affiliation: Assembly Vice Chair

Chair Email: ebond@asuu.utah.edu

Question (Be as specific as possible):

What would the hearings described in this clause look like? Like when would they occur, would they require a room rental, would it be in the ASUU office, what powers are held during the hearings, do they need a secretary to take meeting minutes during the hearing, does it need to be recorded, that sort of thing.

For ASUU Office Use Only:

Attorney General:

Katie Nelson

Text Section in Question:

Hold hearings and to adopt what procedures it deems necessary, subject to review by the Assembly or Senate;”

Interpretation:

In this instance, hearing can be defined as, “inviting experts from across campus to inform the ad hoc committee on the issue that prompted its formation.”

During the initiation process of an ad hoc committee, the Assembly Representative or Senator proposing the formation of the committee shall serve as a temporary secretary until one is officially voted upon during the first meeting. The secretary’s role would include reserving rooms or working with an ASUU staff member to rent rooms and recording meeting minutes. There shall also be an election held for committee chair during the first meeting.
