Students will have the opportunity to meet more than 50 Utah politicians, thanks to an event planned by the Associated Students of the University of Utah.
ASUU’s Impact Day on Oct. 21 will be a chance for candidates to interact with their constituents on campus, said Neela Pack, from campus relations for ASUU.
All of the different political parties will be on campus, with candidates from all races of the election, both senate, congressional and local, she said.
Candidates attending will include both governor candidates, Gov. Gary Herbert and Mayor Peter Corroon, said Don Willie, associate director of government relations for ASUU. Other candidates who will be appearing include Mike Lee and Sam Granato, both for U.S. Senate. Rep. Jim Matheson and Rep. Rob Bishop have been extended an invitation but are not yet confirmed to speak.
More than 50 candidates from Democratic, Republican and independent parties will be on campus, tabling and meeting students, Willie said.
“They want to bring students together so that students’ voices can be heard,” he said.
Events will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with candidates from high-profile races speaking and stating their stances in the Union Ballroom, Willie said.
